2003
Letter from
TSPE Brazos Branch President
Dear Fellow Engineers,
National Engineer’s Week, February 16-22, 2003, is upon us and has been recognized by Proclamation from Texas Governor Rick Perry. National Engineer’s Week Proclamations are also planned at the City of Bryan Council Meeting on February 11th and the City of College Station Council Meeting on February 13th.
Our Brazos Chapter of TSPE and Brazos Section of ASCE have planned an Engineer’s Banquet to be held on February 18th at the Pebble Creek Country Club. Guest Speaker at the Banquet will be Roland Mower with the Bryan-College Station Economic Development Corporation and the Brazos Chapter Engineer of the Year and Young Engineer of the Year will be recognized. Everyone is invited with banquet details and the reservation deadline included in this newsletter.
Our lunch seminar programs continue on March 20th with presentation and discussion of NPDES/TPDES issues, on April 17th with presentation and discussion of TABA/TAS/ADA issues, and May 15th with installation of new TSPE Chapter Officers and presentation of the Trans Texas Corridor Project. Meal sponsors are still needed for these events. Anyone interested in serving as an officer or in another capacity with the local chapters of TSPE or ASCE please contact myself or Joe Schultz.
Your attention is also directed to the State Legislature and review of the recommendations of the Sunset Commission. The recommendations include provisions for continuation of the Texas Engineering Practice Act and the Texas Board of Professional Engineers, however, it does also include a weakening of who can utilize the title of “engineer”. The activities of others that could use the title of “engineer” would adversely affect the entire profession because many of these individuals are not bound to the same code of ethics or professionalism.
Bob Mosley, P.E.
President of the Brazos Chapter of TSPE
